Beliefs
We believe that there is no greater love than that of our mighty Shepherd and Creator and through His creation itself, we can reach the unreachable!
For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. –Jeremiah 29:11
This powerful verse is the cornerstone of all we do at Shepherd Youth Ranch.

Purpose
To provide hope and restoration to the hurting through a unique relationship with a horse.

Strategy
We do this by pairing our horse “counselors,” many of whom are rescued, with youth and families who are suffering from trauma, underserved or in need. Through Equine Assisted Therapy and Learning, therapeutic activities, and riding we encourage personal empowerment, spiritual growth and life-changing insights.

Hope Reins' Foundational Scripture
“Praise be to the God and Father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” – 2 Corinthians 1:3-4

Vision
To inspire true hope and real healing for every child.

Mission
We pair kids in crisis with rescued horses to find hope and healing.

What We Do

We are privileged to serve kids aged 5-18 and their families free of charge at the ranch.
At Hope Reins, we believe hurting people need hope, especially hurting kids. Thousands experience acute crisis in North Carolina every day.  Their trauma is a result of difficulties like physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse, neglect, violence, illness, or death of a loved one.
With severe reductions in state-funded mental health and limited accessible services, hurting children and families in our region have few options to pursue healing. A child experiencing acute crisis needs the foundational elements of healthy relationship: safety and trust. Rescued horses have a unique way of connecting to these needs through their own stories of rescue and restoration. Through establishing a safe and caring relationship, a person of faith and a rescued horse can help the child begin the process of healing.
