“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety (cares) on him because he cares for you.” - 1 Peter 5:6-7 As we continue our faith journey this side of eternity, we will continually face trials of many kinds. We know that God is decisively opposed to our pride and self-sufficiency in attempting to face these trials apart from Him. However, the apostle Peter gives us the keys which unlock the power, understanding, and resources of God, to speak truth, breathe life, and cultivate perseverance into our lives especially through times of suffering. One of the greatest ways to cultivate humility in our lives is to “cast” or “turn over” our anxieties, worries, burdens, and fears to the Lord, because God greatly “cares for us.” God is a God of details - every detail, every anxiety, every care, every worry, every fear, every burden within our lives matter to Him. Suffering is often illustrated in the form of “storms in our lives” resembling situations in which violent winds blow and raging seas roar, causing our faith to be shaken. Within the very center of a powerful hurricane is a place called the “Eye”, which is surprisingly a place of calmness, while its surroundings are ferocious and destructive. In the Eye of the Storm, there is a period of solitude, where the winds have calmed and the raging seas seem to have subsided in the very center of the chaos. Just as there is a respite of calmness in the eye of a hurricane, so too there is for us in the Eye of the Storms of Life when Jesus is by our side providing peace, comfort and the strength to endure. Connecting Faith & Life Father, thank You for the promise that You will lift us up out of the raging storms of life in Your perfect timing, yet in the midst of them You never leave us. May we in humility, cast our burdens on You, thus allowing You to carry us through every storm to the other side. In Jesus’s name I pray. Amen |
